Title: French translator and writer – Party & Play/ Chemsex project

Position type: temporary contract (1-month, full time) 

Rate of pay: $40/hour 

Location: Remote

The GMSH is preparing to launch a significant campaign on the use of drugs like crystal meth and GHB by queer men during sex (known as Party & Play)—a topic that is deeply stigmatized in and outside our communities.   In this contract role, you’ll get to produce engaging content for queer people in our community and engage with organizations doing great HIV and sexual health-related work for diverse communities of francophone people in Ontario.

A wide range of skills are required for this contract. If a handful of activities as outlined below align with your experience and skills- we encourage you to still apply and note that for us.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BE WORKING ON

  • Adapting English web-content of our soon-to-be-released campaign website for French-speaking audiences
  • Creation of original French content appropriate for the subject matter and campaign goals
  • Writing French summaries of campaign outputs (for example: a series of videos developed to train healthcare providers)
  • Identifying external French language resources on Party & Play for community members and healthcare providers
  • Identifying French programs and organizations to include in a directory of health and community care providers
  • Convening with community-based HIV service organizations and other’s working in sexual health who serve francophone communities

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Lived experience or strong affiliation with 2SLGBTQ+ community
  • Appreciation for the life experiences of cis and trans gay, bisexual, and queer men
  • Demonstrated research, editing, translation, and proofreading skills that allow you to gather and synthesize information in clear, precise, and plain language for different audiences
  • Ability to review, translate, and edit academic text in detail to ensure the accuracy and consistency of content, grammar and presentation style
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that would allow you to liaise with staff and stakeholders
  • You’re friendly, open to feedback, and passionate about queer people living our best lives free of shame and stigma

The Gay Men’s Sexual Health Alliance (GMSH) champions the health of 2GBTQ+ men in Ontario. We lead the development of cutting-edge sexual health promotion resources and collaborate with HIV service organizations and other service providers in Ontario to ensure 2GBTQ+ men have the information, supports and services they need to have the sex they want.
