1. To clearly understand what loneliness is and to distinguish it from related concepts.
2. To understand how transient loneliness can evolve into a chronic state and negatively impact social perception and behaviour.
3. To understand how to effectively identify and help chronically lonely people (if help is desired).

PART 2 WEDNESDAY AUGUST 15 2018
3PM-4PM EST

-Learning Objectives-

1. To understand the risk factors for loneliness that are specific to GBQ men.
2. To understand the specific mechanisms by which these risk factors can contribute to loneliness
3. To understand the best ways to reduce and prevent loneliness in this population.

-SPEAKER BIO-

Eddy Elmer, MA is a member of the City of Vancouver’s Seniors Advisory Committee. Eddy is currently completing his PhD in social gerontology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His academic interests include mental health and aging with a focus on social isolation and loneliness. His dissertation examines the psychological process linking sexual minority stress and loneliness in older lesbian, gay, and bisexual adults.
